24th February 2026: On the second day of the Punakha Dromchoe, the Pazaps of Wang-Tshochen rise early around 4:00 AM to perform rituals in their camp. Following this, they gather near the Mo Chhu River to receive the Kabji Pazaps, who arrive accompanied by Dasho Dzongdag, Dasho Drangpon, Dasho SP (RBP), Dasho Dzongrab and sector heads after attending the Marchang ceremony at Changyuel.
By the Mo Chhu riverside and near the Punakha Dzong, the Zimpons (leader-generals) demonstrate combat techniques through traditional songs and dances, preparing for the day’s reenactment of the historic battle. The performance culminates in a symbolic display of warfare, filled with vigorous energy, war cries and dramatic scenes.
This sacred event stands as a tribute to Bhutan’s independence and plays a vital role in preserving the nation’s warrior heritage. According to local tradition, the Pazaps’ actions are believed to invoke the protection and blessings of their guardian deities.
