Sandeep Rai Chamling Arrested as Police Probe Growing Fraud Complaints
The Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) has detained Sandeep Rai Chamling after more than 50 people accused him of running a fake trading-and-crypto training scheme. Investigators have seized his devices and are digging through financial records, digital wallets, and suspected overseas money transfers.
Officials say Sandeep allegedly took large payments from youths promising to teach them online trading, but failed to deliver any real training. The Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority has already received 62 refund claims, with more victims expected to come forward.
Authorities are also examining suspected deceptive practices, crypto-gambling referrals, and “fronting,” since his business license was reportedly under a family member’s name. The Bhutan Qualifications authority has confirmed he was not certified to run any such courses.
As the investigation widens, police say more charges could follow and additional victims may still be unreported.
