$2,000 Raised by Harrisburg Gurkhas Volleyball Club for Nepal Disaster Relief

Harrisburg Gurkhas Volleyball Club Donates $2,000 to Nepal’s Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA — In response to the humanitarian crisis caused by the recent devastating floods and landslides in Nepal, the Harrisburg Gurkhas Volleyball Club in Pennsylvania has contributed $2,000 to support relief and recovery efforts in the country.

The funds were raised collectively by the club’s players, officials, members and friends through a spirit of unity and solidarity. The entire amount, equivalent to more than NPR 265,000, was deposited directly into the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund of the Government of Nepal.

Following the widespread loss of lives and property caused by continuous rainfall, Nepalis living abroad have stepped forward to support those affected in their homeland. As part of this effort, the Harrisburg Gurkhas Volleyball Club, which has remained active in both sports and community service, launched an emergency fundraising campaign among its team members and close supporters.

Speaking about the initiative, team captain Shankar BC expressed the club’s deep connection with Nepal.

“Although we are physically thousands of miles away, our hearts, emotions and thoughts remain with Nepal. Seeing our brothers and sisters displaced and suffering because of the floods and landslides has deeply affected us. We have learned not only to play together on the court but also to stand together during difficult times. This small contribution is our humble effort to help wipe away the tears of our motherland. The money we have collected represents more than financial assistance. It carries the love, prayers and deep connection each of our players and friends has for Nepal. We believe this contribution will provide at least some relief during this difficult time.”

Several active members and community supporters played important roles in raising the funds and making the humanitarian campaign successful. Those who participated and contributed include Shree Pun, Som Timsina, Raj Rai, Bishnu Thapaliya, Dadhi Subedi, Manoj Chhetri, Manoj Darlami, Bikash Rijal, Pujan Thapa, Jitendra Bishwakarma, Bhawani Mahat, Shankar BC, Sagar Bishwakarma, Ramu Dhimal, Kamal Poudel, Yam Lal Bishwakarma, Mitra Dhimal, Keshar Guragain, Tulsi, Bala Dhungana, Suraj Gurung, Binod Rijal, Krishna Dahal and Krishna Dhungana “Baba.”

Club representatives said the contribution was sent to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund with the hope that it would support immediate relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts in flood affected areas of Nepal.

The Harrisburg Gurkhas Volleyball Club’s initiative has received appreciation from members of the local community and sports supporters for demonstrating social responsibility beyond the volleyball court. The club has also expressed its commitment to continue supporting humanitarian and community initiatives whenever people are in need.
