Why we felt insulted,When we are being Called ‘Kami’”
“हामीलाई ‘कामी’ भन्यो भने किन अपमान महसुस हुन्छ?”
People often say — “Why do Biswakarma get angry when someone calls them Kami? No other caste gets angry when we say their caste name!” Sound legit logic.
But here’s the truth: Kami was never just a caste name — it was a word to dehumanize us.
Just like the word “Negro” was once used to insult and humiliate African Americans, the word “Kami” was used by so-called upper castes to make Biswakarma people feel low and untouchable.
Phrases like “Kale Kami,” “Kami jasto beura,” or “Kami ko jasto jaat janaucha?” were never compliments — they were verbal chains meant to keep our community down and dehumanize.
That’s why we strongly react when anyone uses such words to insult us. Every human deserves respect and dignity.
