Bhutan and Bhutanese Worldwide Unite for Nepal in Time of Disaster

Bhutan contributes INR 100 million to Nepal’s flood relief efforts; Bhutanese diaspora worldwide joins humanitarian support
Upon the Royal Command of His Majesty The King, Bhutan has contributed INR 100 million to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund of Nepal in the wake of the devastating floods of 26 August, which resulted in the tragic loss of many lives and widespread damage.
The contribution is a gesture of solidarity and friendship with the Government and people of Nepal at this difficult time and reflects the warm and longstanding relations between Bhutan and Nepal.
H.E. Maj. Gen. Vetsop Namgyel, Ambassador of Bhutan to Nepal, handed over the cheque to Dr. Surendra Thapa, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi.
Alongside the Royal Government of Bhutan’s contribution, Bhutanese communities living around the world have also come forward to support the people of Nepal. Bhutanese living in the United States have already contributed more than half a million U.S. dollars directly to Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund, while a separate GoFundMe campaign in the United States has collected an amount approaching NPR 10 million (one crore Nepali rupees) for flood relief efforts.
Bhutanese communities in Australia, Denmark, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Canada and other countries have also mobilized humanitarian assistance and financial contributions for Nepal. These collective efforts demonstrate the strong sense of compassion, solidarity and historical connection that Bhutanese people across the world continue to share with the people of Nepal during this difficult period.
The Royal Government and people of Bhutan extend their deepest sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families and all those affected by the disaster. Together with the humanitarian support being extended by Bhutanese communities across the globe, Bhutan stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal and conveys sincere wishes for the swift recovery, rehabilitation and rebuilding of the affected communities.

"शरणार्थी हुनु आफैँमा एउटा ठूलो अभिशाप र दुःख हो, तर शरणार्थी नै भएर पनि शरणार्थीको कागजात र पहिचान नहुनु त्योभन्दा पनि ठूलो सजाय हो।"
